Tre Altarelli Park – Landscape Museum

Year: 2018

Project group: Federica Leone, Francesca Campisi and Annalisa Cicero
Location: Mount Etna, Italy
Project Type: Final project for Landscape Design course

Affiliation: University of Catania, Italy

Concept: The project proposes a landscape museum for Tre Altarelli, one of the main entrance points to Mount Etna Park. Conceived as a kind of “Wi-Fi of intent”, the intervention stems from an in-depth analysis of both the existing and historical landscape. The aim is to enhance the symbolic nature of the site, currently underutilized, by reactivating the concept of the threshold through a micro-invasive, reversible installation. The design is based on the triangle, a form that echoes the profile of Mount Etna. This geometric motif is used in the pavilion, along the access path, and in the installation that defines the threshold itself—a panoramic belvedere. The metaphor of a “Wi-Fi of intent” refers to two ideas:

  • The landscape resonance of the triangular form, acting as a visual and symbolic ripple across the site.
  • The potential for future expansion, in which the museum’s structure and paths could grow organically throughout the park, much like Wi-Fi waves spreading across a network.
